Questions we hear a lot
Do I need to be a business major?
No! Beta Pi welcomes students from every major at the University of Miami. Our brothers bring different academic interests and career goals, which gives us more opportunities to learn from one another. Whether you are interested in finance, engineering, healthcare, law, or another field, AKPsi can help you build professional skills and connections.
Can I rush more than once?
Absolutely! Many of our brothers participated in recruitment more than once before joining. Returning gives you another opportunity to get to know the chapter and helps us learn more about you. Participating again will not count against you. Beta Pi holds recruitment during both the fall and spring semesters.
Why should I join Alpha Kappa Psi?
AKPsi gives you a community of people who care about your success and want to enjoy their college experience alongside you. Through career workshops, speakers, mentorship, service, and brotherhood events, you can explore your interests and build meaningful friendships. Whether you are preparing for your first interview or figuring out what you want to pursue, there is someone in Beta Pi you can turn to.
What is the time commitment like?
Membership includes weekly chapter meetings and professional, service, and brotherhood activities throughout the semester. New members also participate in a pledging program with additional meetings and requirements. We will explain these expectations during recruitment so you can understand how AKPsi fits alongside your classes, work, and other commitments.
What is casual attire?
Wear something comfortable and appropriate for the activity. Jeans, shorts, T-shirts, and sneakers are generally suitable. For a sports event, choose clothing and shoes that allow you to participate comfortably. Check each event's details for any specific guidance.
What is business casual attire?
Business casual means looking polished without wearing a full suit. Options include dress pants or chinos with a collared shirt, blouse, or sweater, or an appropriate skirt or dress. Loafers, flats, and other dress shoes work well. Avoid athletic clothing, flip-flops, and ripped jeans.
What is business professional attire?
Business professional is more formal than business casual. A suit with a dress shirt and tie, a pantsuit, or a skirt suit with a blouse are common options. Choose dress shoes and clothing that fits comfortably and looks neat. If you are unsure what to wear, our recruitment team can help.
Are there dues?
Yes, membership requires dues that support chapter operations, programming, and fraternity fees. Our recruitment team can explain the current costs, payment deadlines, and any available payment options before you make a commitment.
Is there a GPA requirement?
Yes, you must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher to be eligible for membership. If you have questions about your eligibility, reach out to our recruitment team.
